Walmart-Government Conspiracy?

In a CNN story posted December 6, 2010, Janet Napolitano thanked Walmart for partnering with DHS to encourage employees and customers to spy on their fellow citizens. The article states:

Walmart will join the Department of Homeland Security in a program called “If You See Something, Say Something” which encourages the American public to take an active role in ensuring the safety and security of the nation, DHS said Monday.

Remember seeing Ms. Napolitano on those little TVs that used to be all over Walmart stores?

A few months later:

The Supreme Court today unanimously dismissed a class action gender discrimination lawsuit against retail giant Walmart. The decision concluded that the suit, which claimed to represent hundreds of thousands of employees based on specific allegations of discrimination by three of the plaintiffs, was too broad, reversing the ruling of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

That was on June 20, 2011.

The news this morning:

President Barack Obama will nominate a veteran of the Clinton administration and Walmart’s current philanthropic director to lead his Office of Management and Budget on Monday…Burwell currently leads the Walmart Foundation, the retailer’s charity division, and previously ran the global development wing of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

You can search the Internet to find that both right-wingers and leftists are skeptical of the motives behind the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. With its vast monetary resources, it is very powerful and many people are not happy with various aspects of its agenda.

Nevertheless, I have long believed the government will one day take over Walmart. You’ve probably noticed that whenever a new Walmart store opens, other stores go out of business. Will the government one day bail out Walmart as one of those businesses that’s too big to fail? With so little competition remaining, it wouldn’t take much for Walmart to be the last store standing.

Having the government in charge of food supplies is never a good thing. Just think of the old Soviet Union breadlines and subsequent ration cards. How many of those people expected their government would one day ration goods?

Are we witnessing a Walmart-US and/or world government conspiracy? I don’t know. I’m just making some observations. However, the results of such a union would negatively impact our way of life.
